If After Effects shows this error when you import an item from a pack:
"Unable to execute script at line 3. Expected: )"
…here is what causes it and how to fix it.
What was happening
If you work with non-English text - for example the name of your project folder, or the text you type into an item and save - the plugin stored that text inside the layer’s own data in an encoded form. After Effects has a length limit on that data, so a long piece of encoded text was stored cut off halfway. When the plugin read it back, the cut-off text could no longer be understood and the whole import stopped with the script error above.
It affected any non-Latin text - Armenian, Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and others - and it did not depend on the pack. The item itself was fine.
The fix
This is fixed. Cut-off text no longer stops the import, and non-English text is saved correctly.
To get the fix right now:
- Open AEJuice Pack Manager.
- Press Shift+D (or right-click the AEJuice logo in the bottom-right corner of the plugin and choose “Download scripts”).
- Restart After Effects.
- Import the item again.
It will also be included in the next release, so if you update later there is nothing extra to do.
