Opus Clip does one job very well: take a long video, find the moments worth clipping, and hand you a stack of captioned vertical shorts with a virality score attached. Captions come along for the ride. If turning podcasts into shorts is your workflow, use it - we do not do that inside After Effects.
This is for when captions are the job. AEJuice Auto Captions runs inside After Effects and Premiere Pro on your own timeline, uploads only the extracted audio instead of the whole video, covers 145 languages against 20+, and costs $9 a month or one-time credits with no subscription.

Where Opus Clip wins
- Finding the clips. It watches a long video and picks the moments likely to perform, then scores them. That is the actual product and it is good at it.
- Volume. One upload becomes a dozen posts, sized and captioned for each platform.
- Scheduling. Pro publishes straight to your accounts.
- B-roll on the Pro plan, chosen and inserted automatically.
If you are cutting podcasts into shorts at volume, none of that is worth giving up.
Where AEJuice wins
It works where you already edit. Opus Clip is a web service you upload to and download from. Auto Captions is a plugin - captions land on the sequence already open in Premiere or After Effects, as text layers you keep editing.
The credit maths. Opus Clip charges one credit per minute of source video you upload, so a 60-minute podcast costs 60 credits whether you keep one clip or twelve. Pro at $29 is 300 credits, about five hours of source a month. We meter transcription minutes and do not care how many videos or how long they are.
Languages: 145 against 20+.
Accuracy, then AI on top. On the standard FLEURS and Common Voice benchmarks our engine holds the lowest word error rate across 99 languages, ahead of Whisper Large V3, Gemini 2.0 Flash and Deepgram Nova-3, at 96.7% on English. Then a language model groups lines by meaning, fixes brand spelling, places emoji and separates stumbles from emphasis.
Audio-only upload. A few MB instead of the whole file - and nothing to re-download.
Compliance controls. Profanity masking in text plus beep or mute on the audio, Meta and YouTube ad safe modes, custom flagged words, brand spelling. None of it exists in Opus Clip and it is what ad and client work needs.
Price. $9 against $15, or no subscription at all with one-time credits.
How to choose
Use Opus Clip if the job is turning long videos into many short ones automatically, and you want the picking, sizing and scheduling done for you.
Use AEJuice if the edit is already in After Effects or Premiere, you want captions as editable layers there, your language is outside their 20+, your videos are long enough that per-minute credits get expensive, or you need advertiser-safe wording.
