Captions is a mobile app. You shoot on a phone, caption on the phone, post from the phone, and it does that well - plus AI actors, voice cloning, translation with lip sync, and generated b-roll. If your whole pipeline is a phone, it is a reasonable buy.
It is a poor fit for anyone editing on a desktop. There is no plugin, no timeline integration, and the captions come back burned into an exported video. AEJuice Auto Captions runs inside After Effects and Premiere Pro on your own sequence, uploads only the extracted audio, covers 145 languages, and starts at $9 a month against $24.99.

Where Captions wins
- It is a phone-first editor and a good one. Shoot, caption, style and post without touching a computer.
- Generative features we do not have. AI actors, voice cloning, and translation that re-syncs the lips. If you want a video in Spanish where you appear to speak Spanish, that is theirs.
- Everything in one app - b-roll, music, sound effects, AI edit styles.
If you make talking-head social video on a phone, this comparison is not close and you should use Captions.
Where AEJuice wins
Desktop editing at all. Captions has no After Effects or Premiere integration. Anything you cut on a desktop has to be exported, moved to a phone, captioned, and brought back as a flattened file. Auto Captions is a plugin in the app you already use.
Price. $9 a month against $24.99, and the $24.99 tier is credit-metered at 500 a month. If you caption occasionally, our one-time credits mean no subscription at all.
Languages: 145 against 100+.
Accuracy, then AI on top. On the standard FLEURS and Common Voice benchmarks our engine holds the lowest word error rate across 99 languages, ahead of Whisper Large V3, Gemini 2.0 Flash and Deepgram Nova-3, at 96.7% on English. A language model then groups lines by meaning, fixes brand spelling, places emoji and separates stumbles from emphasis.
Audio-only upload. A few MB for an hour of speech, rather than pushing a video file off a phone.
Compliance controls. Profanity masked in the text, full or partial, plus beep or mute on the audio. Meta and YouTube ad safe modes. Custom flagged words. Brand spelling.
Captions stay editable. Text layers in your project, not pixels in an export.
How to choose
Use Captions if you work on a phone, you want AI actors, voice cloning or lip-synced translation, and you post straight to social.
Use AEJuice if you edit on a desktop in After Effects or Premiere, you want captions as layers in that timeline, you would rather pay $9 than $24.99, or you need advertiser-safe wording and profanity control.
